Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King- Tanjong Pagar, Singapore

Lunch hour in Singapore is a sacred affair, the daily routine to break up the monotony of a workday.

Tanjong Pagar is an area with a number of notable Japanese food outlets- ranging from excellent omakase options, to more affordable lunch selections like gyoza, unagi and ramen specialty shops.

On a particularly rainy day, I happened upon Tonkotsu King at Tras Link- opting for a hearty broth over other potentially equally worthwhile options in the area.

Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King has sheets at the door for customers to fill out, allowing them to fully customise their bowls to their own liking. As someone who can be very particular about their ramen options, this was something I greatly appreciated, opting for bowl of normal soup with chicken oil and soft noodles.

As someone who has tried a variety of tonkotsu broth styles- from the thicker varieties from Gumshara in Sydney, to the lighter broths from early Yasaka days- this broth definitely is one of a classic and well-adjusted texture making it silky and easy to drink for majority of the market.

The soft noodles were the perfect texture for me, complimenting the healthy and well-adjusted broth, the yolk in the flavoured egg jammy and the chashu tender, perfect for a rainy day.

As you order at the door with the slips of paper before being seated, service is prompt with the kitchen working quickly with the quick delivery of your own customised bowl of ramen ideal for the lunch crowd that is typically in a rush.

Due to its convenient location, Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King is definitely a well-known lunch location as I was only able to secure a seat early after a pre-lunch appointment. As lunch hour began to come around, people began to trickle in to the venue.

With a free flow of boiled eggs and beansprouts for guests, I can see why this place is popular amongst the lunch crowd, promising both a hearty and quick meal for their customers with a steady variety of tonkotsu broth based options for people to try.
